Teen Delinquency

Teen Delinquency--No One is at Fault

If you ever had a family member who was a troubled teen, you know that their behavior can affect the whole family. The sleepless nights, the heated arguments, dealing with school or legal authorities is enough to make you just want to give up and cry. It is also enough to make a parent wonder, Where did I go wrong? It is easy for a parent to take the blame for their child's actions or put the blame on an absent parent, the failing school system, or rap music. In reality, the blame game is neither comforting or productive. No one is at fault. Youth delinquency can send a family into crisis. In a crisis, we are taught to stay calm and get help. During an earthquake no one asks, I wonder why the ground is shaking? No, you either get help or you get out. In a crisis and when dealing with youth delinquency, stop asking questions and start taking action.

Follow these five steps:

Stay Calm -- Your out of control emotions will only feed the fire.

Get Help -- Don't be embarrassed to let others know you need assistance.

Develop a Plan -- Your child is waiting to see how you will react.

Be Consistent -- Don't let surprises or disappointments detour you from your goal.

Let go and let God -- Believe it or not, God loves your child more than you. Put the situation in his hands and begin to shout the Victory!
